I like JMBarry as a master of the Scots language. Usually I have few problems wi' understanding even his dialogs (thanks to the wonderful online Dictionary of the Scots Language). But sometimes he really puzzles me.
I would like to know how you deal with all those Scottish words and expressions while reading JMBarrie's books -- patiently look all them up in a dictionary or just swallow them like a little bit of unknown spice?

“I am currently reading SENTIMENTAL TOMMY, and I am ejoying it quite a bit (tho the Scottish dialect can sometimes be daunting)…”
“ All the Scotch was overwhelming at first, but soon I was so used to it that when my roommate asked me where something was while I was reading the book, I replied, "I dinna ken"!”
I have found these relevant posts in the archives of the forum. So I am not the only one who stumbles over the Scots!

Hi, Renata. Here's a link to a guide to Scotch that I have always found incredibly useful when deciphering JMB, and I bet you will, too.
