Nice piece on P3 (nice spot!) of the Sunday Times this morning about the Allahakbarries - the upcoming match and their history, & Kevin Telfer's impending book publication. Here's the link

JMBarrie / Genealogy

I've been asked to update the family tree for the birthplace and as such I thought it prudent to check back all the information on the current one which was researched in the 1960s-70s. I now have a stack of downloads and printouts from the ScotlandsPeople website from census, birth, death, and marriage records which as you probably know is a time-consuming and expensive project! The copyright restricts further distribution, so uploading to the JMBarrie database for instance, is prohibited, but if I can make it clear on the tree what is verified and what isn't, essentially then it won't be necessary for anyone to do any further checking unless to try and find any missing information. I'm currently using the Genes reunited website as it has some useful click throughs for finding information, but as this will obviously include information from parts of my family that are non-Barrie providing a link here to that probably isn't helpful - but I would be interested if anyone had any ideas about how I could extract the Barrie genealogy, going back currently to mid-1700s into a format that could be uploaded onto the database here. There are a number of queries from far flung Barries and I thought it would help to have a verified copy publicly available.

Davies Family / Re: Peter's Family - Huntington's

In reply to whether or not any of the family thought of contesting the will, JMB was guardian to his nephew Charlie's three children (Margaret being my grandmother), and despite a huge falling out with Charlie's widow, left her a not insubstantial sum in his will, there are also several other family members mentioned in his will whom he was fond of. No member of the family to my knowledge ever dreamed of contesting the will, and even if they had I am not sure there would have been any legal weight to any challenge. His parents, brothers and sisters had all died, and on looking through the family tree all the remaining family members i.e. nieces and nephews, were bequeathed varying amounts, obviously not anywhere near the amount left to Cynthia Asquith, but certainly sums that they would have appreciated. Certainly no member of the family now believes they have any claim on a will from 70 years ago (not least over and above the LD boys) and no-one should expect any dramatic court cases!
