JMBarrie / Re: Barrie's grave
« on: July 17, 2014, 10:38:14 PM »
As the one responsible for organising the petition to remove the wall and plaque i have to place on record that the family of Barrie were duped/ manipulated into having this wall built they never saw what was done until it was completed. They were told that it had been designed by Angus Council. This was not true, at the JMB 150 celebrations in may 2010 a certain person was at great pains to go around all to say nothing in case it caused upset. Enquiries made has revealed a totally dishonest motive, of greed and personal kudos, which is now being investigated and hopefully those involved will be exposed and brought to justice. For legal reasons i cannot divulge any more details,
From the relatives, barrie followers , and the vast majority of the townspeople of Kirriemuir are unanimous in their opinion that the wall is totally disliked, and unwanted. I feel angry that the family was conned into paying out£4000 for the " privilege" and is one of the reasons that I put forward the suggestion of having an "unfondation stone celebration" this will be held at a suitable date with the idea that people and or groups can "adopt"a stone from the wall and have the stone removed or sledge hammered! As they would see fit, the point would be to restore the grave to its original condition, the funds raised  be donated to GOSH but I would also make a case for the family, that a portion be given to a fund for the maintenance of the gravesite  in perpetuity  i hope that this will find favour with you all

JMBarrie / Re: Barrie's father
« on: October 02, 2007, 02:15:05 PM »
It has been prying on my mind for some time the influence of JM Barrie's father, and the influence as a whole of the loss of David his elder brother.
Reading the article it does seem that Margaret was lucid enough(being mindful of public respectabilities in the press), I think that JMB was an extremely good actor even at that tender age.Whether at the age of 6years he was able to comprehend the death of David, in Margaret Ogilvy he states that he only had vague recollections of him,His acting skills were honed on his mother,The clue to this is found in Sentimental Tommy, when Tommy takes on the Mourning clothes of a boy ,so allowing the boy to play as normal whilst Tommy mourns by proxy.Handing the clothes back, resuming his normal place, is pure Acting.Once JMB had left his mother, he usually went outside to play with his friends, which would confirm that the experience had little adverse affect on him.
With his father and particularly Jane Ann in the household their level headedness would not permit JMB to wallow in the self inflicted pity that is implied by others( but never mentioned by JMB).JMB's father  and Jane Ann were the constant undercurrent of his greatness.

JMBarrie / JMB-150
« on: August 06, 2007, 07:52:25 PM »
Dear All,
I am re-affirming proposals for the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of JM Barrie. Over the past two years I have been working on ways to honour the man and his works that we have all admired and discussed and debated over.
to this  end in the town that he was born Kirriemuir (Thrums) has agreed to have a year long celebrations with events of different kinds ranging from book festivals, street theatre amoungst other things.
As a member of this site and Annon Society  I want to arrange our own tribute to JMB. To this end I would like to know who would be interested in coming to Kirriemuir in May 2010 on his Birthday to pay hommage to Him.
My proposal will be on his birthday to visit his Birthplace then visit the places in his books ,followed on by a performance and recreaction of some of his speeches, in the Town Hall including "The opening of the Bazaar"(the one when he addresses the invisible canary The original Clarinet is on display at the birthplace.)"Courage" address, I am also hoping that this will be recreated at St Andrews University also. and many others I am sure that you will nominate other speeches for inclusion I will be greatful for your opinions.I do hope that guest speakers for the afternoon on JMBarrie topics I am sure Andrew will contribute towards this.
Please remember that this will be run on a shoe string budget, and if any one out there has a spare shoestring, please let me know!!
yours from Sunny Scotland

I need a bit of clarification on the actual date of JMB's parents wedding date  on the wall at Birthplace has  March 1843, Alexander the eldest son born 1841, Janet Dunbar in her book has the marriage as 1841 and birth of Alexander as 1841. Which one is the correct answer?

Peter Pan / Myths
« on: March 03, 2006, 09:28:23 PM »
As part of my own studies of JMB  I have tried to avoid PP but just as an insight to the Myths . For a starting point JMB was steeped in the folklore of Scotland, tales from his early childhood as well as the Scots History ,in particular the JACOBITE cause which was only  a hundred years previous,The Capt Hook figure is pure "bonnie prince charlie"  similar with Robert Louis Stevenson's Alan Breck Stewart  in KIDNAPPED both  out of place of a time that is gone and will never return, the old way had died , and only the sentiment remains.
The legends of Faery again is as ancient as time in Scotland, One must appreciate that the faery folk are not just the miniscule winged humanoid (mini human) that Tinkerbell portrays Faery folk can be of similar size to us ,or larger, the gnome like faery has the purpose of gaurdianship , they protect a specific stone, tree, grove or sacred place.Supernatual powersand again within the cyclical nature of life , birth living, then death as the Sun and Moon Cycles Winter Solstice birth spring, growth,Summer solstice Zenith of Power/life, Autumn witherand ageing Winter death then rebirth. The Properties of the effect of the Lunar cycle of similar vain but more subtle in form from new moon, quarter moons to full moon returning to the new moon, The Dionysis Cult attach importance to these cycles.
Peter Pan himself is a Dionysis identity, a messenger of the mythological Gods.Again similar to Hook not wanting things to change or captive in a time frame, unalterable,Unfetered and can move freely and can fly taking to the fourth dimention but in that time space but  unable to move on  or evolve himself.
I hope these brief notes are of help.
Cheers
Iain
