New Peter Pan Sequel!

Hi everyone!

The Anyplace is author Peter David’s take on J.M. Barrie’s Neverland in his novel TIGERHEART (Del Rey; hardcover; June 2008), but this is not the Neverland of Barrie’s PETER PAN or the Disney animated movie. For one thing, Peter Pan, or The Boy, is not the main character, and instead of viewing all grown-ups as the enemy, TIGERHEART looks at the complexities of growing up and whether it really means that one can’t still believe in seemingly impossible things.

To the average observer, Paul Dear seems to be a perfectly ordinary boy from an ordinary family, with a doting father who tells wonderful stories and an indulgent mother who does her best to temper these stories with common sense. However, the former pirate who wanders London’s Kensington Gardens is no average observer, and he notices what others do not—namely, that Paul Dear is connected to the Anyplace.

Initially Paul is satisfied with his tenuous connection to the Anyplace, which exists mainly in his ability to speak to animals, interact with his reflection, and run with a white tiger in his dreams. Everything promptly changes with the loss of his baby sister, which causes his parents to separate and his mother to insist that Paul go on medication to stop his “fantasies.” As a very grown-up boy, Paul comes to the conclusion that he must be proactive and help his mother be happy again by bringing her a replacement daughter. An encounter with the former pirate in the gardens begins Paul’s journey, which leads him to a certain pixie and then straight into the Anyplace.

But the Anyplace is in trouble, and Paul finds himself sidetracked from his quest for a new sister in order to help the inhabitants of the Anyplace put things right again. The pirates and their allies are very close to overtaking the Anyplace completely. Paul and his new friends must stop them and save The Boy from their influence—preferably without dying in the process.
