Peter Pan and Hook's poison
« on: December 01, 2012, 03:26:32 AM »
I have a question about Hook's attempt to poison Peter.  I seem to remember from the Mary Martin musical television version from the 50's that Hook left a rich cake in Peter's underground home to make him sick and die.  However in the written Barrie story that I found in the library, Hook left a vial of poison.  Was the "cake version" an invention of the adapters?

The idea of the poisoned cake was probably inspired by Barrie, who also had a cake in his version, although neither poisoned nor specifically intended for Peter. In the novel and play (Chapter VII and Act II, respectively), Hook devised a plan whereby the pirates prepared "a large rich cake of a jolly thickness with green sugar on it" to leave on the shore of Mermaids' Lagoon, hoping that the Lost Boys, "having no mother, would not know how dangerous 'tis to eat rich damp cake", and thus would perish. Needless to say, the plan didn't work, because Wendy found it and hid it from the boys.

At least the cake fits in with Barrie's story, unlike Disney who had Hook leave a time bomb...

I think the France cover for Peter Pan that was showned in the thread earlier will be the cover for the Blu-ray + DVD combo pack. I am really looking forward this release. Peter Pan is one of my favorite Disney movies. :D I hope it will have a fantastic picture quality and atleast all the bonus features.
