Hook Deleted Scene

Here’s a deleted scene of Hook incorporating a piece of dialogue from Peter and Wendy!

I know Hook is not a good sequel to Peter Pan and makes no sense continuity wise, but I have to give Spielberg credit where credit is due, he did do at least some Peter Pan homework for this movie! According to him, his mother read him Peter and Wendy as a child, and he felt a deep connection to the story and character.

Do I wish the movie was more connected to the ending of the original story, of course! But the movie does have interesting “easter eggs” to the Peter Pan story sprinkled throughout the movie and it seemed Spielberg did actually care about the source material! Which is more than I can say for the people who made the Pan movie 5 years ago, who probably just went off their memories of the general story and wrote a prequel story from that instead of actually reading the book and connecting the prequel story to the original!

Yes, I agree that Hook is disappointing, but as you say, Spielberg did acknowledge the source material - in his own way. I think it's worth noting that not only did care about the original story, but he also cared about Barrie's legacy. When he visited Great Ormond Street Hospital prior to making the film, he was so moved by their work, and so taken by the story of Barrie's gift of copyright, he personally donated $1m to the hospital.
