The Child Thief

I've just finished reading 'The Child Thief' by Brom (info: http://www.bromart.com/childthief.html) but now - horror of all horrors - I have no one to talk about it with.

At the link there's pictures of the art (some of it - it is written by an artist afterall. The book is full of pictures) and a quick little outline.

Has anyone read it? Tell me what you think of the various mythologies woven through it? Of the graphic deaths in it? Did you find it overwhelming? What did you think of the interpretation of the Captain? 

I found it an interesting concept - though I got a little over some of the themes in the book and there is some pretty strong topics in there so I can imagine it's not people's cups of tea. I won't say too much for those that haven't read it but would love to hear what others think.
