Peter Pan and Great Ormond Street Hospital
« on: November 06, 2009, 05:22:06 PM »
Christine Pootere of GOSH sent me the various letters to and from Barrie re his gift of Peter Pan to the hospital.  A search for "Ormond" in the database should bring them up...

How fascinating Andrew!  I'm so glad people are sending new documents to you to be scanned for the database.  It is best to have as much material as possible in one place!

And I'm very glad that at least some of the letters are typed!  Barrie's handwriting resembles some strange early alphabet, maybe Ogham! :D

I went to the rare books library at Yale and held many of Barrie's notebooks in my hands.  All I can say is, I have NO IDEA how anyone could read anything this man wrote!! 90% of it was completely illegible.

Practise! I found it almost illegible in 1975, but a year later I could more or less sail through!
