Jack's death
« on: October 13, 2016, 01:37:34 PM »
Hi, I have been reading alot about James Barrie's life with the Llewelyn davies boys and I find it such an interesting story to be told/read . I was just asking and scrolling through wiki, but it doesn't seem to explain how Jack died exactly.. I do know that he and his younger brother Nico were both cremated.. does anyone have an answer to that?

PS. I accidently wrote it in a different topic section.. sorry..

Emphysema. Nico had it too, as did Peter ... according to their cousin Daphne du Maurier, it was inherited from their glass-blowing ancestors - which I somehow doubt!

Thank you so much for the quick answer Andrew! Did peter know about this before he committed suicide? Did nico die because of this too, because you mentioned that he had this too, so he died because of this or was it a different sickness issue?

Sorry for the constant messages about this topic by the way...

Nico was sure that Peter's deteriorating emphesyma was a mjor contributiong factor. I seem to remember that Nico died in his sleep from a heart attack, but again I imagine the emphesyma played its part. When I first met him in 1975 he was in reasonable health although the emphesyma had already kicked in, but by the time we were rehearsing the Lost Boys in 1978, his wife Mary had to restrict his answers to the many questions he fielded from cast and crew when he visited the BBC ...

Oh wow, thank you again very much for this, it really helped me know more about them.
By the way one last question, is there any sites available for me to watch the 1978 lost boys documentary? I tried youtube but it didn't help much...

Emphysema is not inherited. It is caused by heavy, persistent pollution of the air entering the lungs, usually by long term smoking.

Oh yes I just researched how it occurs, and it's weird how Daphne said to Andrew that it passed from their ancestry's.... :-\ Just a little bit confused..

Hi Chanelferris. In reply to your question about Andrew's 1978 s JM Barrie and the Lost Boys: it's not a documentary, but a mini-series running to 4h 30 and is under copyright, so wouldn't be available to watch on YouTube or any other site for free. You can buy copies, new and used, on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/J-M-Barrie-Lost-Boys-DVD/dp/B0002PC2EA/ref=sr_1_7?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1476378757&sr=1-7&keywords=the+lost+boys

It's a great docudrama, and the best portrayal of Barrie ever (Finding Neverland doesn't come anywhere near!), so well worth buying and keeping. Enjoy.

Daphne du Maurier had some strange ideas about some things, so it's not really a surprise that she got in her head the emphysema was inherited from their ancestors. People of that generation used to be heavy smokers, and the smog in London prevailing at the time wouldn't have helped.
