Captain Hook Movie?
« on: March 16, 2022, 05:01:26 PM »
I’m curious to know would the Pan Fans on this forum want to see a Captain Hook movie based on the backstory Barrie wrote for him?
It would start with Hook as a boy in Eton and possibly end with Peter cutting off his hand and throwing it to the crocodile.
The movie would mostly focus on his travels with Blackbeard as a young adult and then somehow finding Neverland and exploring the island, then Hook meeting Peter somehow and Hook kills Blackbeard and becomes captain of the Jolly Roger.
I literally just thought of this story today so I haven’t put much thought into it.
If I could cast Captain Hook for a Captain Hook movie, it would be Tom Hiddleston! If you’ve seen his performance as Loki in the Marvel movies, he has the perfect blend of debonair, sinister, and a little bit of humor that Captain Hook needs.
Hiddleston actually played Captain Hook in one of the animated Tinkerbell movies, but I think he would be much better as a live-action Hook!
Also something pretty funny, in the recent Loki show on Disney+, one of the Loki variants gets his right hand bitten of by an alligator (not a crocodile), and it definitely helps me picture Hiddleston as Hook!

Here’s the clip of that scene:

Anyway, I would love to know people’s thoughts on this idea!

I’ve been thinking about it, and Tom Hiddleston is actually too old for a movie about a young Hook. As of this writing, Hiddleston is 41 years old, and young adult Hook would be in his 20’s, so the actor would have to be around 21-30 years old. Tom Hiddleston as a live-action Captain Hook would still be awesome to see though!
I’m very surprised no one has made a Captain Hook origin movie yet when the backstory has already been written for them by Barrie! Between the 1927 “Jas Hook at Eton” speech and the 1925 manuscript version, I think a movie, maybe even a mini-series, could be made using the material!
I’ve read summaries of of books that people have written about Hook’s backstory (I’ve never actually read the books themselves), but none of them really follow Barrie’s writings as much as they should have.
The closest to a Hook origin movie there is a young Hook in the 2015 movie Pan, and the character and movie were terribly written!
It’s possible that Disney will eventually make a Hook origin movie like they did with Maleficent and Cruella de Vil, but like those movies, most likely the Hook movie would be terrible! I’m still hoping so much that the Peter Pan live-action remake isn’t terrible!
