I've been asked to update the family tree for the birthplace and as such I thought it prudent to check back all the information on the current one which was researched in the 1960s-70s. I now have a stack of downloads and printouts from the ScotlandsPeople website from census, birth, death, and marriage records which as you probably know is a time-consuming and expensive project! The copyright restricts further distribution, so uploading to the JMBarrie database for instance, is prohibited, but if I can make it clear on the tree what is verified and what isn't, essentially then it won't be necessary for anyone to do any further checking unless to try and find any missing information. I'm currently using the Genes reunited website as it has some useful click throughs for finding information, but as this will obviously include information from parts of my family that are non-Barrie providing a link here to that probably isn't helpful - but I would be interested if anyone had any ideas about how I could extract the Barrie genealogy, going back currently to mid-1700s into a format that could be uploaded onto the database here. There are a number of queries from far flung Barries and I thought it would help to have a verified copy publicly available.

So the birth certificate says
Christina Elizabeth Smith Barrie.
Born - Oct 1, 1903
35 Hollybrook Street, Glasgow

Father - Claud Hamilton Hamilton Barrie (yes 2 Hamilton's)

Mother - Agnes Brown Barrie, M.S. Welsh, April 26, 1899 (date of marriage)

also my great grandmothers obituary read as:

Christina McKenna After a lengthy illness at Toronto on Saturday, December 12, 1987. Christina (Barrie) McKenna, beloved wife of the late Francis. Loving mother of Mrs. Stan Bradley (Nancy), Mrs Donald Fraser (Francess) and Mrs. Harold Snow Lillian\my Grandmother). Dear sister of James, Margaret, Claude, Robert, William and Andrew.

I also have found a in rememberance card reads as:

Funeral Services for William Barrie

Born in Renfrew Scotland June 29th, 1942 died in Toronto, Ontario July 4th, 1989

Services conducted at Ward Funeral Home "Weston Chapel" on Friday, July 7th, 1989 at 11:00 A.M. By Reverend Keith Kiddell, Cremation at Riverside Crematorium Chapel Weston Ontario

So folks can any one confirm what i've got here? Anyone? Anything?

Sandy

Hi Tanya,

I am researching my family ancestry and I understand that the may be a connection with J M Barrie through my paternal grandfather.  I would be most interested in viewing the family tree for J M Barrie.  My grandfather was born in Towie (Kildrummy) where many of the Barrie family lived and some ran the Kildrummy Inn.  Are you able to tell me if there is any connection with the author J M Barrie with the Barrie's who lived in Kildrummy.  I am told that my grandfather was a cousin of J M Barrie and wish to try and verify this.  I too have traced my grandfather through the ScottishPeople's website.  My grandfather was James McIntosh Barrie born in 1884.

Hoping to hear from you.
