Peter Pan quote?
« on: January 21, 2011, 07:23:43 PM »
A friend posted this quote on my profile today...I don't remember this particular one but it's been attributed to Peter Pan wherever I look. I don't REMEMBER it being in the book or play but i could easily be wrong I havn't gone back to check....do any of you know where this quote came from and if it's the book or play where it's found?

"Never say good-bye because saying good-bye means going away,. and going away means forgetting. "

Huh!  Well, I'm stumped!  I don't remember that either, and I've mostly got the dialogue MEMORIZED!  Unless it's in a version of Peter Pan that I haven't been exposed to (either one of Barrie's or an adaptation or etc.), I don't think that IS from Peter Pan....

It's certainly not from Barrie's play or novel - and it does sound a little too sentimental for Barrie, doesn't it (or rather not his kind of sentimentality)? If it is from Peter Pan, my guess is that it's from one of the films or musicals.

Peter Von Brown has said it's from Hook, but I don't think it's from there either.  It sounds SORT of similar to something one of the Lost Boys said in that movie, but it's not identical by any means.

Poked around Google...it seems that it's from Disney's Peter Pan, but I haven't seen either of the movies for years (11 to be exact). Conformation from an avid Disney watcher may be needed.
I don't remember the quote being in the first movie, so if I were to put a finger on it, I'd say it was from the second Disney Peter Pan movie ("Return to Neverland"? I think?)

I know it's not from the first Disney Peter Pan movie.  I don't remember it from Return to Neverland either, though.  I suppose I could be mistaken, but I don't think so....

One of the Tinkerbell movies, maybe?  I haven't seen ANY of those....

We just finally watched Return to Neverland as we bought a box set a while back that had the first Pan...Return and Tinkerbell in it. I don't remember it in either Pan movies..I'd have to go back and re-watch Tink. Definitely wasn't in Hook though you're right there were quotes similar.

Thud Butt: Don't leave us Peter, and don't say goodbye.
Too Small: What's goodbye?
Ace: It's going away, that's what it is.  Forgetting about us all over again.

Those were the lines in Hook, which does resemble the quote you gave closer than anything I can think of, but yes, it's not identical.

Yeah that's probably where it came from...I'd never have put that together with that quote but while reading it....it makes sense...unless they pulled it from something else that WAS Peter Pan but i doubt it heh

I love it...a bunch of Peter Pan nuts, all of whom I'm sure have read the novel and play backwards, forwards, upside down, and we're having an excruciatingly difficult time finding this quote! Goodness!
If I were to put a finger on it, I'd say it's not from anything Peter Pan related. But hey! You never know >.>
(has anyone watched the 2nd Disney version recently? I have a creeping suspicion its in there, but I'm really not sure. I've just got this nagging feeling...   .___. )

This one is My Fav: “Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”

Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you but your favourite quote is not by JM Barrie nor is it from his Peter Pan - as discussed previously on this thread! It's a misquote from either the film Hook or Finding Neverland, although no-one had identified it for sure. All we can confirm is that it's definitely not by Barrie, far too sentimental for him.
