Letter from J M Barrie to Mrs Hardy

I wonder whether you would both be persuaded ... Nicholas would send his love if you were in. I must tell you about his last birthday. I had promised him a motor bicycle, though I shudder at the things and the danger of them, so conceive my delight when I got a letter from him saying "I have changed my mind, and would rather have the complete works of Hardy." You may conceive how I rushed out and got them. His brother tells me privately that Nicholas has since written to his old nurse saying "Nobody knows about life until they have read the works of Hardy."
