Letter from J M Barrie to E Lucas

(from Cannes) Thus far into the bowels of the earth and I assure you it seemed a long way in that Blue train, which shall have no blessings dropped on it by me. In a sleepless night, when I constantly opened my door to peer out upon pandemonium, another passenger kept opening his door in the same clandestine way to peer at me, and he so got on my nerves that I meditated pulling the cord to complain of him. The dawn was coming before I realised that the ill-favoured loon was the reflection of myself in a mirror.
