Letter from J M Barrie to T L Gilmour, sometime in 1887. Transcription only. Taken from The Letters of J M Barrie, edited by Viola Meynell, Peter Davies Ltd, 1942.
My dear Gilmour
Have been to Kirk twice to-day (an old fellow-student preaching, cunning, a donkey) and thought out a title, "When a Man’s Single". Nothing fixed. Riach* would have had things, daily, but have so far only done two. The Free Assembly of next year the subject. Frightfully profane (see Thursday and Saturday). Great pains taken in the family to conceal authorship ....
*Alexander Riach = editor of the 'Edinburgh Evening Dispatch', when he welcomed frequent contributions from Barrie.
