A Window in Thrums was Barrie's 1889 sequel to The Auld Licht Idylls and was an instant success among readers, though critics were less than keen on his "saccharine conception of the Scot, all the more damaging because of the half-truths in it."

The actual "window" of the title referred to a small window in a cottage a couple of doors to the right of Strathview, as can be seen in the many postcards that suddenly blossomed, including one that was written by Barrie himself ...
